""I just can't get motivated" Tips to Get You Motivated to Move!

One of the most common statements I hear from women who want to get in shape is "I start a program but I just can't stay motivated!" I understand that concept. I suffer from the same thing to sometimes. As long as I have been dancing and working out I still have those days when I JUST DON'T WANT TO DO IT! I find sometimes that on those days I later regret that I didn't motivate myself to go ahead and start moving.

Here are some tips I have used to keep motivated to stay fit:

*Set achievable goals:
Now this is important. When you first get started with a new fitness program or even with your current program set goals that you know you can achieve. Be realistic with yourself. If you haven't done push-ups in 3 years and set a goal that you are going to start doing 25 pushups everyday ...that is probably not the most realistic goal to set. Why not be easy on yourself and set a goal that won't kill you!! It's okay to start small and grow from therein increments. For instance - this week I will do 10 push-ups a day for a week, next week I will increase to 15 push-ups a day for a week and so on. You want to get in shape but you don't want to get frustrated by setting unrealistic goals.

*How are you doing?:
It is a great idea to journal your progress or keep track of your progress on some of the on-line trackers. It gives you a sense of accomplishment, helps you to set realistic goals as you increase repetitions, and boost your confidence as you meet each goal.

*Perfection is not a must: You don't always have to be perfect in your workout program. There will be times when you just don't feel like exercising and you might skip a day. Don't beat up on yourself if you skip a day. It's okay. Just remember why you started the exercise program in the first place, remember how you feel when you are exercising and remember what a since of accomplishment you feel when you finish your routine. Be patient and loving with yourself. Each day is new unto itself and a new chance to get it right the next day!

*This isn't a competition: Don't compare yourself with others. We all know everyone is different - RIGHT?! Well then stop comparing your progress to others. Compare you progress to the goals you have set for yourself. Each goal you meet is a celebration. Revel in it, enjoy it, and most of all celebrate it!

*Get the support you need: Although our friends and family might mean well they may not always be the best ones to support or encourage you. Make sure your support system is upbeat and encouraging. Consider hiring a coach or personal trainer. They will provide encouraging and constructive support to help you meet your goals.

*Find an Exercise Program You Enjoy:
You don't have to choose something that you really don't enjoy. There are so many choices on how to get fit. Dance, Aerobics,Yoga,Pilates,Swimming, Walking,Zumba are just a few of the types of movement that are fun and enjoyable! Find your passion and go for it!

*Break It Up:
It's okay to break up the exercise regime. Maybe walk twice a week, dance class once a week, stretch and strength workout twice a week etc. You also don't have to do a full hour of exercise, you can do it in 20 minute increments three times a day.

*Make It Convenient:
Choose a time of the day to exercise that works for you. If you have to squeeze it in and you don't have enough time the exercise will become more of a chore and a stress. Exercise is supposed to make you feel good, not stressed. Decide based on your schedule and what is best for you. If you can only exercise once or twice a week that's a great place to start. Perhaps your schedule will open up later and you can add more exercise sessions later.

*The Past is the Past! - Whatever your exercise routine may have been in the past and it didn't work for you that's OKAY. Move forward...try something new! Your fitness results in the past don't dictate your future Maybe your weren't the greatest athlete in High School, that doesn't mean that you can't start exercising now. There is no reason why you can't start now. It's never too late to start moving!

Rewards! - Yes! The best part about an exercise program is rewards. Whenever you reach a goal or milestone celebrate it. Tell your friends and family, do something nice for yourself (no not a steak dinner). Reward yourself in ways that reinforce your new lifestyle choice. By that smaller belt you have been admiring, get those pair of earnings or purse you have been staring at for weeks, go out to dinner and have a lovely healthy dinner with someone special!
.
YOU CAN DO THIS.I KNOW YOU CAN I HAVE SEEN IT DONE. You just have to make up your mind to make a lifestyle change to start you on that journey to wellness. You'll be healthier and you'll be happier!
