How To Maximize Your Wellness During The Summer - 5 Essential Tips That are Easy and Fun
It Summer!! A great time of the year to get outdoors, enjoy the weather and perhaps make a couple of lifestyle changes for your wellness that you can incorporate throughout the year. Below are a few wellness essentials to help you stay well and thrive throughout the summer and beyond.
- we all know that it is important to stay hydrated during the summer months. To put a little kick in your water try adding lemon, cucumber and mint. It is great to quench your thirst but also helps to adjust your alkaline levels, helps to detox the liver and also helps with cravings. Try at least 6 to 8 8 oz glasses of water a day to help stay hydrated and to flush out toxins
Sun Screen – All of us need to be using sun screen. The rays of the sun are much more dangerous than they were even 10 years ago and we must protect our skin from skin cancer and other complications that can arise from sun exposure. Try this homemade recipe for sun screen. It is organic, no chemicals and it does protect your skin
4 oz of Avocado Oil
6 drops of Carrot Seed Essential Oil
6 drops Helichrysum Essential Oil
5 drops of Lavender
Mix ingredients together and put in a 4 oz bottle. Stir well. Apply to skin. Reapply after swimming.
Take a Wellness Vacation at Retreat/Spa. If you are on a budget try a local “getaway” day spa or perhaps you can take a weekend to re-energize and relax totally with no interruption either at home or at a nice hotel. Walks in the evening after work while it is still warm is a wonderful way to relax. Try something that you normally don’t due during other seasons, go bike riding, make your own mood mists to help you relax (see my recipe for Lavender Relaxation spray), try an outdoor yoga routine, go on a picnic, and learn to do daily meditation. There are so many things you can do to take advantage of this wonderful time of the year. Be creative, have fun and most importantly take good care of you.
Healthy Outdoor Dining – cooking outside during the summer is always fun. Try new salad recipes, grill your vegetables, try some wonderful cool non-alcoholic drinks, make a fruit salad using summer fruits and Greek yogurt, instead of barbecue try marinade (citrus juices, broth, vinegars, herbs and olive oil),instead of grilled steak switch to grilled salmon. For appetizers try hummus on pita bread instead of chips and dips. Cook with lower fat cuts of beef, poultry and seafood. Outdoor Fitness – there are so many things you can do outdoors during the summer. Of course there is swimming, water aerobics or perhaps you will want to try canoeing! Exercise on the beach is great also. Taking a beach walk is wonderful for your calves and thighs because your toes have to grip the sand as you walk. What about building a sand castle! Just moving the sand and using your arms is a great way to strengthen your upper body. Summer is a wonderful time to go hiking or climbing. Try something new in your fitness program, have a sense of adventure and explore the ways you can be fit outdoors.
